România, the name of the country, comes from român (previously rumân), « Romanian », which in turn is a derivative of the Latin romanus, meaning « citizen of Rome ». The name of the country is linked with Rome, former capital of the Roman Empire and with the Byzantine Empire, which official name was Ρωμανία (Romania)… Indeed, we could recognize familiar latin sounds and words.
